Vitamin MePA Testimonials
Joey Contreras, Sr. Family and Friends
Joey and Sonya Contreras are longtime friends of Dr. Aardsma. Their eldest son is married to Dr. Aardsma's youngest daughter.
Joey is a Physician Assitant medical professional. Joey has been informing family and friends about vitamin MePA and keeping track of their experiences with it. The following reports were written by Joey unless otherwise noted.
Joey: 53 years old; start date 16 OCT 2017.
29 October 2017; 2 drops daily.
Has always slept well without problem; usually gets 5–7 hours sleep. Now wakes up after about 5 hours of sleep, around 3:00–3:30 AM ready for the day for past 5 days. Unable to get back to sleep. Feels rested and not unusually tired or sleepy throughout the day.
After doing a heavier than normal leg workout 9 days ago, his legs started to feel a little sore the next morning. This resolved after few hours and did not recur; his legs normally feel sore 1–2 days after that type of workout.
He has been intentionally working out harder all muscle groups with heavier weights past week, but gets very little soreness, if any.
Appetite still very good. Basically, no change, but has gained 4 pounds.
26 November 2017; first 2 weeks 2 drops daily; 3 drops daily since.
Sleeping 4–5 hours, feeling refreshed and energetic. I plan my early morning and late evening hours differently since I have the energy and motivation to work, study, read more.
Biggest change I've noticed is my ability to push myself during weight workouts. Difficult to describe, but when I tell myself to push a little harder, my body responds easily and I am able to perform the exercise with more weights and repetitions. I have been trying to remember if this is what it felt like in my teens and 20's.
I have rarely run the past 1.5 years, almost nothing. My 2 mile time for the Army Physical Fitness Test was 15:40. (Still in the Army 90th percentile for my age.) My Army 2 mile May 2017 was 15:23. I ran a 5K on Thanksgiving Day, my average 1 mile pace was 7:51, the winner in my age category 50–54 pace was 6:21, age 54. Same as the weights though, my body and mind responded well to push myself.
21 February 2018; 3 drops daily.
Continues to feel rested and energetic on 5–7 hours sleep. Most significant change is not just increased energy, but is motivated to do the task at hand. Often wake up at 3:30–4:00 AM and get to work, either Bible study/sermon preparation, business planning, working out. Not tired or sleepy throughout the day.
Had worst cough and cold in past 25 years or more December 2017, lasted 3 weeks. Treated with over the counter cough/cold medication; did not miss work.
Been driving to Army drill for about 19 years. Typical Army weekend involves leaving home Friday about midnight after 1–2 hours sleep, drives 4 hours, arrives at mother's house, eats, changes, arrives at unit 6:30 AM Saturday. Gets to sleep about 9:00 PM same evening, averaging 1–2 hours of sleep in a 36–41 hour span. Drives 4.5 hours to get home Sunday evening between 9:00–12:00 very tired. Works next day.
Comes home from work, eats dinner, goes directly to sleep. Usually takes 2–3 days to recover.
Since starting vitamin MePA, fatigue and feeling tired is all but gone during an Army weekend. Gets to unit refreshed, drives home wide-awake with much energy. Upon arrival at home Sunday night is usually wide-awake. No recovery needed. No caffeine is involved, except ice tea at times.
16 Sep 2018 Update; 4 drops (8 micrograms MePA) daily.
When Joey e-mailed the following update he wrote, "I am so thankful that my prostate symptoms have basically resolved. Many thanks! My brother, Albee, has had similar results."
From about age 51 (currently I am 54) I started having symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). Pre-vitamin MePA, my score was 14 points, signifying moderate BPH. Post-vitamin MePA, my score is 3 points, signifying mild BPH. (See the American Urology Association BPH Symptom Score questionnaire at urologix.com [select the menu item About BPH, then BPH Symptom Score Test] for severity index and definitions.)
Pre-vitamin MePA, the main symptoms, affecting me daily, were urgency, frequency and dribbling. Incomplete bladder emptying was also a problem, but not as severe.
I discussed these symptoms with my primary care provider early on, but I decided not to take any medications. The symptoms progressively worsened and were interfering with my Quality of Life (QoL). I had to plan what, when and how much I would drink, taking into consideration how close the nearest bathroom or gas station was. Still I declined any treatment.
Five months after starting vitamin MePA (by mid-March 2018; I was taking 3 drops daily at the time) I noticed, over several days, that these symptoms were at least 50% improved. I do not know if the improvements occurred quickly or slowly, but my BPH symptoms were definitely better. By early April 2018 all BPH symptoms were basically resolved.
On 01 May 2018, I intentionally decreased vitamin MePA from 3 to 2 drops daily to monitor any changes to BPH symptoms, energy level and sleep quality. On 11 May, my BPH symptoms recurred, but were mild. Over the next 2 days my symptoms returned to pre-vitamin MePA severity. My energy level and my speed while running, which had improved very much since starting the vitamin, slowly decreased. BPH symptoms continued to worsen, so on 15 May I started taking 4 drops daily. BPH symptoms slowly decreased and by 01 June they had returned to minimal. It took about 1 week for energy level, running and speed to return. I did not notice any change in sleep quality during time of taking 2 drops daily.
BPH symptoms intermittently recur, but never to pre-vitamin MePA severity. These recurrences last 1-3 days about once monthly. I consistently take the vitamin daily about the same time every morning and have never missed a dose. I have not noticed any similar brief recurrences in other areas, such as energy level, sleep quality or workout energy.
Sonya: 54 years old; start date 16 OCT 2017.
29 October 2017; 2 drops daily.
Sleeping more soundly for about 1 week. She noted she does not wake up when I leave for work. This is very unusual, she always was up to see me off. She has never been a sound sleeper.
Her appetite decreased; she does not enjoy Pepsi anymore. She normally has a Pepsi every morning.
Her last menstruation was JUL 2017, but started feeling "odd" several days ago, then started a very minimal menstruation 2 days ago. The "odd" feeling was the same feeling she would get a few days prior to menstruation.
She had menopausal hot flashes for the past month or more. They spontaneously resolved 3–4 days ago. (She is happy the hot flashes resolved, but is hoping her menstruation does not recur.)
Significant daily hand/finger joint pain for many years resolved 1 week ago.
Cramping in hands past 3–4 months, worse when playing piano or writing for long periods, resolved 1 week ago.
No change in long time (years) low back pain.
Dr. Aardsma asked Sonya to elaborate more on her sleep changes.
4 November 2017; by Sonya Contreras.
Prior to vitamin MePA, I would shut down by 8 PM, yawning, unable to concentrate or function. Now I don't even notice when it's late (10 PM).
I do still wake up like an alarm's been set at 1–2 AM and can work till 5 AM. When I go back to "rest" for a while, before I would hear the boys and Joey get up for work, so I could make sure they had lunches, etc. Now I don't even hear them leave. When I "rest" during the day, before, I could lie down for 10 minutes to get over the "overwhelming, not able-to-function" feeling. My rest would be just rest, not sleep. Now I fall asleep and don't sense what's going on around me, (which I don't like—I've burnt the meat 3 times because I've slept too long and didn't smell it).
So I sleep more soundly, unaware of my surroundings. And I don't need as much sleep.
26 November 2017; 2 drops daily.
Continues to sleep soundly. Feels less tired during the day. Able to be awake and alert past 8 PM without problem. Previously could not stay up past 8 PM without being extremely tired during the evening and the next day. Now she wakes up rested even staying up past 10 PM.
Her appetite decreased, but gained 10 pounds.
She saw our family doctor, who I told about vitamin MePA, to make sure uterine cancer was not causing the vaginal bleeding. "Spotting."
Pelvic and vaginal ultrasound showed no masses, but endometrium was a little thick at 13mm, normal is 10mm or less. Doctor is not concerned, but will retest in JAN 2018; if no change will do an endometrial biopsy to rule out cancer.
No return of hot flashes, though mild pre-menstrual symptoms recurred this month without any bleeding/spotting. Doctor thinks she may still be peri-menopausal.
Significant daily hand/finger joint pain for many years has not recurred.
Long time (years) low back pain is better; rarely needs to take pain medication.
She takes over-the-counter ibuprofen or acetaminophen.
21 February 2018; 2 drops daily.
Continues to sleep well and feel energetic. She had the kitchen remodeled. Contractor did the skilled work; Sonya and the boys did the rest. She said prior to the vitamin she would not have had the energy to do the work, especially painting the ceilings.
She is willing and motivated to do more. Prior to the vitamin she felt "like I was shutting down."
Helen: 81 years old; start date 21 OCT 2017.
29 October 2017.
Has had "kidney pain" for 2–3 years; this pain has been gone for about 1 week. (Her doctor told her it was not kidney pain, but it is back pain)
No change in right jaw pain; started several weeks ago.
No other significant changes.
26 November 2017; 2 drops daily.
Continues to sleep more soundly. Family continues to notice how well she sleeps. Back pain has not recurred. No change in jaw pain.
She asked me, "How do I get more of this vitamin?"
21 February 2018; 2 drops daily.
Back pain has not recurred. Continues to sleep soundly, feeling more rested.
Had cough and cold and probably bronchitis for about three weeks in December and January by her description and treatments given of steroid injection and nebulizer treatments. She made full recovery with no sequlae.
Albee: 61 years old; start date 15 OCT 2017.
29 October 2017.
Feeling more energetic past 1 week. He said the feeling came on suddenly.
Previously able to do 6–7 push-ups. Did 16–17 push-ups without difficulty. Now doing 20 push-ups regularly without problem.
Had hip replacement almost 2 years ago, he is not sure if he is more energetic because hip is improving recently or if due to vitamin MePA, though he thinks it is the vitamin.
He feels he has the energy and motivation to start working out again at the gym.
He coaches college girls' softball and the other coach pointed out to the players how Albee's energy has picked up. (The other coach does not know about the vitamin.)
21 February 2018; 2 drops daily.
Still feeling energetic and sleeping well. Hip replacement 2016 is doing well. He is back competing in fast pitch softball at the national and world level, not to the standard he places on himself, but well enough to compete.
His hip feels tight if he "overworks it." The orthopedic surgeon told him that feeling is normal. He does yoga regularly to help keep his hip stretched, which also helps. He believes it is the vitamin that is doing the most good for him.
Joshua: 13 years old; start date 16 OCT 2017.
29 October 2017.
No noticeable changes.
He broke his right wrist in 2 places 1 week ago. When the doctor set the bones in the office he said he does not give pain medications to children to set the bone because they do not need it; the nurse afterwards said the same thing, but the children usually wince. She was surprised he showed no sign of pain. Joshua said he could feel what the doctor did, but it did not hurt. Not sure if it is his pain tolerance or the vitamin. He did have pain from the break and for 2 days afterwards, controlled with over-the-counter ibuprofen and acetaminophen.
He goes in next week for another x-ray to confirm the bones did not shift; I am interested to see if there is any healing. Doctor said he would be in a cast for 6 weeks.
26 November 2017; 1 drop daily.
At his 2 week follow up for fractured wrist, the orthopedist told Sonya he was surprised how much "bone was laid down." Sonya asked if the cast could come off. He hesitated and said, "If something went wrong, somebody would be in trouble." She did not push too hard, but basically he was telling her the bones were healed, but he was afraid of a lawsuit since the standard for a fracture is 6 weeks.
21 February 2018; discontinued vitamin once cast was removed.
Final appointment with orthopedic doctor to have cast removed said Joshua laid down much more bone than normal.
Pres: 63 years old; start date 16 OCT 2017.
26 November 2017; 2 drops daily.
Sleeping more soundly. Feels more "energetic."
21 February 2018; 3-4 drops daily, often places drops under tongue.
Still sleeping well, feels energetic.
Got flu DEC 2017, lasted 3-4 days, resolved much faster than friend's flu.
Back and neck pain from several injuries from teen and college age sports. Pain has worsened past several months, being treated by chiropractor and pain is improving.
Evelyn: 63 years old; start date 16 OCT 2017.
26 November 2017; 2 drops daily.
Most of her life slept about 5 hours and was a very light sleeper. Still gets 5 hours of sleep, but is very sound. Wakes up refreshed. Her husband also states she sleeps more soundly.
Eats well, but is satiated with less food.
21 February 2018; 3–4 drops daily.
Developed macular degeneration in her 20's. She is slowly beginning to see things very close up, about 6-8 inches away, in her "blind" eye (left eye). She told this to her eye doctor and he said he was not interested in her near vision improving because it is not related to her macular degeneration. She said she is excited though for any improvement. Improvement started more than one month ago and continues to get better.
Teresa: 57 years old; start date 21 OCT 2017.
26 November 2017; number of drops unknown.
U.S. Postal letter carrier for 31 years. States she had significant lower leg pain while working for many years. States she often took over-the-counter Alleve prior to starting her route; leg pain resolved after 1 week of taking vitamin. Had foot pain for many months, she attributes to her shoes being old; improved significantly. No longer needs pain medication for leg or foot pain.
States never had problems sleeping, but does feel more rested.
21 February 2018; 2 drops daily.
States she lost her vitamin bottle while on vacation. Her leg and foot pain recurred about one week later when she started work again. Last dose about 15 January, 2018.
She will start again.
Araceli: 34 years old; start date DEC 2017.
21 February 2018; 2 drops daily.
States she sleeps much better. No longer needs to hit the snooze button.
More energy throughout the day. States she started feeling sluggish again, then realized she had forgotten to take the vitamin for 3 days. Energy returned quickly once she started the vitamin again.
Steve: 58 years old; start date DEC 2017.
8 January 2018; 2–3 drops daily.
Has liver disease and diabetes. States his energy level has increased very much after 3 days. States he wakes up early, works all day, goes to bed late and has not taken any of his usual naps. He thinks his glucose is decreasing also, but states he will monitor more closely to confirm.
21 February 2018; 4 drops in morning, 4 drops in evening.
History of liver disease causing ascites (fluid in abdomen), cirrhosis, diabetes. This is the text he sent 2 February, 2018:
Steve: Had a CT scan yesterday. Liver is fatty (meaning no liver disease), left kidney duct has a node (growth). All other organs have reduced to their normal size. The pancreas and spleen were swollen twice their normal size last CT scan. I am encouraged. Thank you for the vitamin.
In phone conversation 19 February, 2018 he states he is feeling great, much energy. He has decreased insulin from 80 units to 60 units daily. (He has not kept track of glucose levels past week or two, but glucose is decreasing.)
He has no desire for fast foods anymore.
26 months ago his gastroenterologist gave him 18 months to live.
He and his wife attribute all his improvement to vitamin MePA.
Galen: 84 years old; start date first week FEB 2018.
21 February, 2018; number of drops unknown.
Active all of his life as rancher, avid hiker, former missionary to Navajo Indians, president of a bible college. Started feeling run down, tired 2016 and getting worse; he attributed to old age. Unable to hike, withdrew from leadership in church because of lack of energy and "getting old."
Diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatic approximately 12 February, 2018 after 6 weeks of muscle pain and weakness. Symptoms significantly subsided immediately with prednisone 20mg daily. His energy is improving and is looking to participate in some leadership role in church again. He attributes new energy to prednisone.
Michael: 61 years old; start date JAN 2018.
21 February, 2018; number of drops unknown.
Takes the vitamin sporadically; not much at all. No changes.
I am encouraging him to take it for his psoriasis, an autoimmune inflammatory skin disease, can also cause arthritis.
Former missionary couple in their 90s; start date 27 DEC 2017.
21 February, 2018; number of drops unknown.
After 3 days he was able to walk to the mailbox (something he had not been able to do for a long time) and told his daughter his energy is increased. He has not taken the vitamin for unknown time. His daughter states his caregiver does not give it to him and he does not remember. They live in Washington and daughter in California, so it is difficult for her to get her parents to take it.
Her mother decided not to take it, though her daughter is encouraging her to.
Frank: late 50s; start date last week of DEC 2017.
22 February, 2018; 2 drops daily.
Runs his family ranch/farm. No significant health issues.
Feels more energetic; does not get fatigued.
It is much easier to focus on the task at hand.
Last year's crop failed, which is normally a major stressor, but states, "the weight of the worry is lifted" even though the problem is still there.
He feels more relaxed. Able to do more work.
Sleeps well and does not need as much sleep. Wakes up every morning at 5 AM and is "not groggy."
Ran out of vitamin about 14 February and started again 18 February without any decrease or loss of benefits of vitamin MePA, though his wife states he was, "crabby."
Sophie: 49 years old; start date last week of DEC 2017.
22 February, 2018; initially 2 drops twice daily, decreased to 2 drops in morning only.
Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 2010. Probably had the disease longer, but never diagnosed.
Sleep on 2 drops twice daily was "deep," but could not get back to sleep once she had to get up to go to bathroom, so decreased to 2 drops in morning only. Still sleeping well, but able to get back to sleep.
Her biggest improvements while on vitamin MePA:
- Nerve pain gone.
- Pain level is maintained and tolerable.
- Leg tremors are gone.
- Cognitive "fog" is gone. She has a "better and sharper mind" and does not have to rely on her husband to help her finish her thoughts.
- Her legs "do not give out." Able to walk on their farm/ranch without worrying about her legs being able to support her.
Areas not improved:
- No feeling in bowels continues.
- Ruptured hemorrhoids.
- Recent HbA1c is 6.4%. Normal is 4.0–5.9% and poor diabetic control range is above 7%. (HbA1c determines average blood sugar over the prior 3 months, so would not expect any changes this soon.)
Two days after running out of vitamin on 14 February 2018, leg tremors returned and her legs started "giving out" again. Being off the vitamin has made a "significant difference." She will start again tomorrow, 23 February 2018.
Erica: 39 years old; start date 01 NOV 2017.
31 October 2018; one drop daily.
She is 16 weeks pregnant. This is her third pregnancy. First two deliveries via C-section and will have a planned C-section for this pregnancy. Overall, this pregnancy is "going well."
She discontinued the vitamin when became pregnant, but re-started it after one week. States she "felt tired" week of being off the vitamin.
Currently she is "doing well," though she had "morning sickness all day" during first trimester. She had no "morning sickness" with other pregnancies.
First two pregnancies she had "spotting" during first trimester; no spotting with current pregnancy.
Because of her age she has DNA testing, first tests were all normal. Second tests results are pending. Her OB said the "baby is doing well." All other labs are normal as well.
States she does not "feel strained." She is not sure if she is handling stress any differently than previous pregnancies.
First delivery was a difficult C-section. The baby "crawled back up" the uterus during delivery and appears to have torn abdominal muscles. Her OB said this left a "window" in her muscles. Second C-section was without incident and had a much easier recovery.
Her visit with OB today all was normal, baby and mother are doing well. The OB recommends delivery two weeks prior to due date to minimize the possibility of contractions because of the "window" in her muscles.
Erica states, "I feel stronger with this pregnancy." And "I feel my recovery will be better than previous pregnancies."
Lynette: 35 years old. Re-started vitamin about 15 SEPT 2018. Previously took it for about one month in OCT 2017.
31 October 2018; 3 drops daily.
She has done aerobic and weight lifting workouts consistently for over 10 years. She started a spin class at the same time she re-started the vitamin and states she is able to "push myself harder than I would have been able to without the vitamin."
She continues to lift weights and has increased amount of weights lifted. Also started doing two workouts daily twice weekly. She said none of these improvements and increased workouts were possible prior to taking the vitamin.
